Abstract

Objectives: The purposes of this research were to study the problems and needs of the information system to develop the information system for the outpatient medical records of physicians at Rajburana Hospital as well as to study the satisfaction level of the information system users.


Materials and Methods: The design of this research was the mixed method research. The data about information system needs were collected from the in-depth interview with 5 key informants. Then the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) was performed by using the web-based PHP application and the database was designed with MySQL. After that, the information system was installed, tested, and evaluated on the users’ satisfaction level by using the questionnaire with 95 informants. The questionnaire was designed in 4 aspects: 1) system quality, 2) information quality, 3) service quality, and 4) net benefit. The data were analyzed using Mean ( ) and Standard Deviation (SD).


Results: The users’ information system needs were to use the updated information recorded by physicians and nurses. The researchers analyzed the existing information system and developed the new information system by setting access rights for 3 user groups: 1) physicians / nurses, 2) multidisciplinary staffs, and 3) system administrations. In this system, the user interface was designed to display the updated outputs with user friendliness, and the system was connected to the main Hospital Information System (HIS). After that, the system was tested and evaluated on the satisfaction of the information system users. In overall, the information system users rated the satisfaction at the ‘much’ level ( = 4.04, SD = 0.562) with the reasons that the users could record and edit the information quickly, the information was recorded accurately into the system, the system could query and display the output accurately and completely, the user interface was simple and user-friendly, the menu bars were separated according to the information bars on the same screen, and the information system user could get help promptly when facing problems from the system uses.


Conclusion: The developed information system is useful for the system users in simplifying the information search, reducing the searching steps, being quick and convenient, and supporting work operation effectively. The suggestion from this research is that this information system should be further developed in the future to connect with other hospital systems in order to support the service-giving in a quick and high effective way.
